The Eskom bursary application is open for this year’s intake. Eskom will be awarding bursaries to South African learners intending to study in the fields of Engineering, Accounting, Commerce, Communications and Human Resources and who qualify for selection. The application process closes in July . Please note that applications received after the closing date will not be considered.

The selection requirements are as follows:

University bursary holder
Prerequisites: Matriculation exemption (or equivalent) and written proof of acceptance for admission by university and faculty
Minimum criteria:  Matric exemption

  • Technical disciplines Exemption with
    • Mathematics 60% /5
    • Physical Science 60% / 5
    • English 50% / 4
  • For non-technical disciplines
  • average 60% / 5

  • Psychometric assessment (applicable in the 2nd year of study)
  • Health declaration
University of technology bursary holder (This bursary is granted only for a maximum of a three year period including P1 and P2 (National Diploma)
Prerequisites Senior Certificate (or equivalent) and written proof of acceptance for admission by the universities of technology and the department
Minimum criteria: 
  • For technical disciplines Senior Certificate with:
    • Mathematics Core Maths 50%/4
    • Physical Science Core Science50%/4
  • For non-technical disciplines
    • Average 50%/4

FET bursary holder: a learner awarded a bursary under the FET Bursary Scheme to qualify as an artisan

Eskom Internships

Eskom Internships

Eskom provides electricity that is generated, and distributed via their multiple power plants.  Not only do they provide for about 95% of the power usage in South Africa, but moreover they also deliver approximately 45% of the power usage in Africa.

Eskom offers services to all industries, commercial, residential as well as agricultural and mining.  They are currently building additional plants, laying new power lines and more to meet the demands.  They are focused on improvement along with strengthening their core business.

Eskom offers a diversity of opportunities for all, their internships is only one of the many programs they have available.  They are committed to offering high quality educational programs.  With these they aim to improve the skills, over and above the expertise that is required for success.  Eskom internships is usually for a period of 18 months.  During this period, candidates will also receive a monthly stipend.

Candidates will gain great workplace exposure, experience expanded via skills transfer, while learning from greatly qualified members of Eskom.

Requirements

Applications are accepted yearly for a variety of internships with Eskom.  Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.

Candidates will also be required to have the following:

  • Matric with technical exemption
  • English with a 50% pass rate
  • Mathematics with a 60% pass rate
  • Physical Science with a 60% pass rate

Non-Technical Disciplines

  • An average of 60% pass rate
  • Computer literate
  • Be self-motivated and a team player
  • Flexibility with a commitment to learn, but moreover willingness to work

For Graduates

  • National diploma
  • Driver’s License
  • Own vehicle will be to the candidates advantage
  • Previously disadvantage candidates are also invited to apply

  • Up to date curriculum vitae
  • Copy of driver’s license (certified)
  • Copy of ID (certified)
  • Copy of highest qualification (certified)

Application

Internships online applications processes are made available during the year.  There are multiple sites where applications can be made, however it is recommended to regularly check on Eskom website for opportunities as they arise.

After completion of the application, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and an interview may be scheduled with such individuals.

Closing Date

The closing dates vary, depending on the position as well as the need of Eskom each year.  Some Eskom Internships open with the start of each year, and usually close round the end of July each year.  Others open the middle of the year and close the end of October.

Eskom do not accept any late entries, so be sure to have your application in on time.  Do not forget to include all documentation and complete all fields of the application.
